METCALFE COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) -- KSP says Ronnie Hiser, 58, died Wednesday at approximately 2 AM EDT as a result of injuries sustained from the gunshot wound. Chesher remains in the Barren County Jail and has now been charged with murder.

METCALFE COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) -- What started out as a quiet morning in Metcalfe County turned out to be all but that, after police say someone shot a man.

Bradley Westmoreland got up today not thinking anything unusual until he said he saw several law enforcement vehicles pour into his neighbors driveway.

"I had heard a gunshot and I didn't know what was going on. Maybe 15 minutes later, a deputy went through, state police, then came the fire department and ambulance and I didn't think anything about it. Then about 15 minutes into it a bunch of detectives, like three detectives came through," said Westmoreland.

Those detectives were responding to the scene at 7191 Glasgow Road in Metcalfe County around nine Tuesday morning, where Kentucky State Police say 63-year-old William D. Chesher of Louisville allegedly shot 58-year-old Ronnie Hiser of Metcalfe County.

"For some time we were looking for someone in connection with this and we were able to locate a male subject a little bit later that we think and believe at this time to be involved in the shooting," said Kentucky State Police Trooper Billy Gregory.

Police say Hiser's wife, Karen Hiser was at the home when the shooting happened and was not injured, but currently investigators are not sure why they think Chesher allegedly did this.

"Right now motive is unclear. We do believe there was some kind of connection or relationship between the parties, but it's unclear right now," said Gregory.

What is very clear, is Hiser is at the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition.

Kentucky State Police say Hiser was in surgery this afternoon and Chesher faces charges of 1st degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.

He is currently in the Barren County jail.
