The man charged with shooting two of his neighbors at a homeowners' association meeting told police he "had to kill" two officers of the association because a dispute over a fence could not be resolved peacefully.

After being arrested on Sept. 6, 55-year-old Mahmoud Yousef Hindi described for Louisville police the months leading up to the shooting deaths of 73-year-old David Merritt and 69-year-old Marvin Fisher. In a video recording released by police, Hindi talked of problems with several neighbors and says Merritt and Fisher were making his life miserable.

Hindi has pleaded not guilty to murder and wanton endangerment.

Prosecutors are considering seeking the death penalty for Hindi, a Jordanian-trained doctor with an expired medical license.

A tape of Hindi's police interview was first reported by The Courier-Journal.
