A western Kentucky city has received a $15,000 grant to purchase equipment for firefighters.
WKMS-AM reports the grant went to Mayfield, which asked for the funding to pay for face masks for firefighters, as well as an instrument that assures they fit properly and don't leak. The city was awarded the funds from the state Department of Homeland Security even though the amount of grants awarded by the agency was reduced by half.
The state awarded $2.2 million in grants from requests that totaled $11.8 million.
