FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell is being criticized in a new radio ad for voting against expanded background checks for gun buyers.
Americans for Responsible Solutions will spend $40,000 on the radio ad that will air in Lexington and Louisville over the next two weeks. It was to begin airing on Wednesday.
The ad says 82 percent of Kentuckians support universal background checks on gun buyers, but McConnell won't listen to them.
The group is running a similar ad in New Hampshire against U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte. The ads urge voters to call McConnell and Ayotte.
McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton said the Senate Republican leader has been under attack on the gun rights issue for months and that his position will not waiver.
