FRANKLIN, Ky. (WBKO) - Dozens of employees sat down for a town hall style meeting with Senator Mitch McConnell at The Medical Center in Franklin. The topic of choice, the Affordable Care Act.

"Obama Care was the single worst piece of legislation passed in modern times. The single biggest step in ruining American health care," says McConnell.

October 1st marks a huge change in health care. Small businesses and individuals will be able to open enroll for health insurance. McConnell believes the change will hurt medical services across the country, including right here at home.

"I think the critical access, which is the smaller hospitals, are threatened all across Kentucky. All of Obama care is titled against rural and small town health care delivery and I am quite concerned about it," says McConnell.

South Central Kentucky is home to several small hospitals, including The Medical Center location in Franklin. Officials are concerned the funding is not available for the expected increase in patients. Some hospitals fear they won't be able to survive the affordable care act.

"It's so uncertain that those answers can't be provided. It was a 27 page bill. There has been 20,000 pages of regulations issued so far, nobody can understand what they mean. It is a train wreck," says McConnell.

With the clock ticking, McConnell hopes to travel back to Washington and bring Kentuckians concerns to the Senate floor.

"I hope we will have an opportunity sometime in the future to go in a different direction. The president himself has had some second thoughts. He is delaying parts of it," says McConnell.

McConnell believes the affordable care act will have a ripple effect on small businesses across the state.
