Property owners and residents may now be held responsible if they allow underage drinking on their property in one western Kentucky county.

The McLean County Fiscal Court voted Friday adopt a social host ordinance, which grants local law enforcement the power to cite and fine people for underage drinking.

The Messenger-Inquirer reports that the measure carries a $250 fine for a first offense and a $500 fine for any subsequent offenses.

A person under the age of 21 is found with a blood alcohol concentration of .02 or higher within two hours of initial contact with law enforcement is presumed to have been drinking.

The ordinance does not hold property owners responsible if they are not aware of the use of their property for a party.
