UPDATE: Police have arrested 18-year-old Kanissa'a Thompson of Columbia for assaulting 24-year-old Dakota Meyer. Thompson is charged with 2nd degree assault.

Kentucky State Police are investigating an alleged assault on Medal of Honor winner Dakota Meyer.

Meyer was involved in the altercation over the weekend at a venue near Columbia.

Meyer was injured badly enough that he was treated at a local hospital and released.

Police have released little information in the case. They say they are investigating the alleged assault to see whether charges will be filed.

Meyer was awarded the Medal of Honor last year for his actions in Afghanistan. He is credited with saving 13 American and 23 Afghan soldiers' lives in a grueling 2009 firefight.
