MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Police say a 2-year-old boy shot his 4-year-old sister after the boy found a gun their mother's boyfriend had left under the couch.
The Commercial Appeal reports the injured child was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in stable condition after she was shot in the right foot on Saturday.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Chris Sanders told deputies he had brought the gun into the house two weeks earlier. He said he hid it without telling his girlfriend.
After the shooting, deputies found the gun in a wooded area behind the house.
Sanders is charged with reckless endangerment and child neglect.
