Meritor Plant in Franklin Celebrates Sustainability

FRANKLIN, Ky. (WBKO) -- The Meritor plant in Franklin makes brake drums and other aftermarket products for commercial vehicles, and today they celebrated the completion of several projects that will help the plant save energy.

Meritor officials say being environmentally responsible is one of their goals, and Tennessee Valley Authority says that goal helps not only reduce their carbon footprint, but lower energy costs for everyone. This year, they will save 2.3 million kilowatts per hour worth of energy.

"The energy that Meritor is saving through the implementation of their products is enough energy to power 170 homes in this area for one year. By them not using that energy, we as TVA do not have to produce as much electricity," said TVA Kentucky District Program Manger for Energy Efficiency Programs.

Hughes says that lowers TVA's fuel cost, which helps keep energy costs low for all TVA customers. TVA also presented Meritor with more than $200,000 in incentives to help them fund the projects that save energy.
