Miss Kentucky 2012 To Be Chosen This Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- The competition begins Thursday in Lexington for the Miss Kentucky 2012 pageant, with 31 contestants vying for a chance to represent the state in the Miss America Pageant in January.

Preliminary competitions are at 7 p.m. EDT Thursday and Friday, with finals beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. The pageant is being held at the University of Kentucky Singletary Center for the Arts.

The Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/N5HeCB ) reports contestants have a chance to win more than $38,000 in cash scholarships, numerous prizes and in-kind scholarships to colleges and universities.

The winner succeeds Miss Kentucky 2011 Ann Blair Thornton of Bowling Green.

One of the semifinalists in this week's contest will be determined by the public in online voting. Each vote costs $1 at http://www.misskentuckypageant.com .
