UPDATE: Missing Tompkinsville Man Found Dead

MONROE COUNTY, Ky. -- Kentucky State Police say at approximately 3:00 PM CST, Post 15 arrested Joseph Tooley, 32, of Tompkinsville.

Tooley was arrested and charged with Assault 4th Degree in reference to an incident involving Mark Proffit which occurred July 26.

Tooley was lodged in the Monroe County Jail.

Pending autopsy results additional charges may follow.

This case remains under investigation.

MONROE COUNTY, Ky. -- Kentucky State Police say at approximately 10:55 Thursday morning, Post 15 received a call from Tompkinsville Police Department in reference to a body that had been found near near the intersection of M.O. Lane and Richards Drive in the city limits of Tompkinsville.

Upon arrival to Carter Court, KSP detectives found the body of a white male in an overgrown field.

Troopers say the male subject was identified as Mark A. Proffitt of Tompkinsville who had been reported as missing on Saturday, July 27.

Proffitt was pronounced deceased by the Monroe County Coroner.

The cause of death is to be determined.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s office.
