PRINCETON, Ky. -- Kentucky State Police have charged a Princeton man in connection with the death of a Princeton woman.
On Tuesday at approximately 5:05 AM, KSP Post 2 Madisonville says it was contacted by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department in reference to a stabbing that occurred at a residence located at 511 North Plum Street in Princeton.
KSP says the preliminary investigation reveals that the victim, Penny Riley, 50, of Princeton, and the accused, John E. Barnwell II, 39, of Princeton, were involved in a verbal disagreement that turned physical.
Troopers say the accused fled the scene and was located at his residence on Needmore Road in Princeton, where he was taken into custody.
Riley was transported via ambulance to the Caldwell County Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
KSP Detective Billy Sumner has charged Mr. Barnwell with murder and theft of an automobile. He is currently lodged in the Caldwell County Jail. At the present time, no bond has been set.
An autopsy was conducted this morning at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville. The cause of death was a single, stab wound.
