MURRAY, Ky. (AP) -- A Murray man has pleaded guilty, but mentally ill to first-degree manslaughter, for stabbing his mother more than 25 times and killing her.
The Paducah Sun reports 34-year-old Michael Joseph Burke entered the plea Friday afternoon in Calloway County Court.
Burke had been charged with murder in the July attack on his mother, 55-year-old Karen McClellan, at his home.
The charge carries a recommended sentence of 20 years. Judge Dennis Foust set sentencing for April 12.
