A northern Kentucky man is facing 175 counts of animal cruelty charges.

Kenton County animal services director Dan Evans told The Kentucky Enquirer that all 175 animals have been removed from property belonging to 59-year-old Randolph D. Brinkman.

Kenton County Attorney Garry Edmondson said the charges against Brinkman are misdemeanors. He said Brinkman has requested an attorney, and a public defender would be appointed.

The case began in July when a neighbor of Brinkman's called police to report a pony that he thought belonged to Brinkman was loose. When an officer went to Brinkman's home to inquire about the pony, he noted concerns about other animals he observed there.

Evans said the animals that were removed, which included dogs, cats, chickens and rabbits, were living in "deplorable conditions."
