National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

By Melissa Warren |

October is national breast cancer awareness month, and it's a reminder of why it's so important to stay up to date on annual mammograms and physicals.

One local radiologist tells you why early detection can make all the difference in curing the disease.

"The earlier you catch it, the less it spreads, easier it is to treat, more responsive to therapy, and more of a chance of complete cure with no recurrent cancer," said radiologist Jeff Brannick.

Brannick says thanks to digital mammography, the process is quicker and more comfortable for the patient. He also says women over 40 should have at least one mammogram a year, and more frequently if you have a history of breast cancer in your family.
