November is Adoption Awareness Month nationally.

And today local government officials proclaimed this month as Adoption Awareness Month for the City of Bowling Green.

Over 6,500 children in Kentucky are in the foster system.

And according to the Bowling Green Family Enrichment Center Adoption Resource Program, over a hundred children in the Barren River area are in need of a home.

Those with the adoption resource program say it's important to remind people that so many children are without permanent homes in our area.

"Everybody thinks it's somewhere else, but these are children in our community that need homes, that need families, that need that forever family for them," says Program Coordinator, Denise Lambrianou.
