Official: Autopsy, Couple's Story Doesn't Match in Bowling Green Death

By Associated Press |

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A coroner says the cause of death of a 19-month-old doesn't match the story the boy's caretaker's told police at a hospital emergency room.

The Tennessean reported that a Kentucky medical examiner concluded that Adrian Louis Maldonado was assaulted and that his injuries were "inconsistent with the provided history" from the mother and boyfriend.

The paper cited an autopsy report obtained through a public records request.

The couple, 28-year-old Tiffany Dawn Sampson and her boyfriend 39-year-old Robert Roger Dishman, told police the toddler's brother hit him with a toy block, and also that the toddler had a temper that prompted him to "head-butt" the floor.

Sampson, of Greenbrier, Tenn., is charged with second-degree criminal abuse. Dishman, of Bowling Green, Ky., is charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminal abuse.
