ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) -- Police say the death of a Kentucky man who was hit by a train in Elizabethtown has been ruled an accident.

The Elizabethtown News-Enterprise reported that 53-year-old Harold Haire died from blunt force injuries sustained May 22 when a CSX train ran over him.

Police Det. Pete Chytla says Haire was on top of a sleeping bag laid across the railroad tracks when he woke up and heard a train.

Chytla says Haire tried to get out of the way, but couldn't do so in time.

Chytla says the train's crew saw Haire and tried to stop, but couldn't avoid hitting the man.
