Operation Christmas Child is a worldwide effort by Samaritan's Purse to bring goods and gifts to children around the world, all neatly packed in shoe boxes. Forest Park Baptist Church is a receiving center for Warren and surrounding counties. In its fifteen years of being involved with the program they've seen a lot of growth from their first year in 1998, when they received two thousand three hundred boxes.
"I think it has evolved worldwide as well as here. Every year we have reached and even surpassed our goal. This year we're hoping to get over 17,000." said Pat Morehead of Forrest Park Baptist Church
The shoe boxes are then shipped to Boone, North Carolina where they'll be distributed to more than 130 countries around the globe.
The operation is more than just trying to get the largest number of boxes.
Just a way to show them love and a shoebox gift made with love needs no translation." added Betty Harper, who is the Coordinator of Operation Christmas Child in Bowling Green.
