Operation: Scrooge Drug Round-up

Some are delivering holiday cheer this season, while others are delivering arrest warrants. That was the goal of many law enforcement officers in Warren County today as part of Operation: Scrooge.

"Today, in 'Operation: Scrooge,' some will probably think we're being a Scrooge, and we are being a Scrooge to the drug traffickers, but we also consider this to be a Christmas present to the citizens of Bowling Green to get these drug traffickers off the street," said Warren County Drug Task Force Director Tommy Loving.

Loving says those drug traffickers have been indicted on a variety of crimes.

"Those consisted of anything from trafficking meth... pills... crack cocaine... and marijuana," said Loving.

The drug task force is made up of officers from several area agencies.

"We had teams of officers from the Bowling Green Police, Kentucky State Police, Warren County Sheriff's Office, ATF, and Western Kentucky University Police assisting us in this roundup this morning," said Loving.

Those roundups were the result of 6 months of undercover investigations that led to the arrest warrants served this morning.

"The officers go the residence with these arrest warrants to look for these individuals and put them in custody," said Loving.

Loving says the operation often leads to additional discoveries of drugs, and even unanticipated arrests.

"In one instance this morning, we located one of the individuals who had additional crack cocaine and cash on him, which was seized. Going in another residence, we found a small amount of marijuana on the resident there that was not actually the person we were looking for," said Loving.

Officers set out to arrest 23 individuals today charged with a total of 60 felony drug trafficking crimes.
