OWENTON, Ky. (AP) Owen County declares emergency due to water outage
-- Officials in Owen County have declared a state of an emergency because about 2,000 residents are without water.
Judge-Executive Carolyn Keith told media that crews have been working around-the-clock to fix a water main break that occurred on Monday evening.
Because of the main break, government offices and schools in Owen County have been closed.
Kentucky American Water spokeswoman Susan Lancho says the company is trying to identify and fix the problem. She said several efforts so far have been unsuccessful and called the situation "extreme."
A statement from the Owen County Emergency Management Agency on Thursday said officials expect the outage to last until Saturday.
