Paducah Jury Convicts Woman Of Murder

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- A McCracken County jury has convicted a woman of murder after just two hours of deliberation.

Betti Kern was found guilty on Tuesday in the shooting death of David Griffin last August.

WPSD-TV in Paducah (http://bit.ly/NlKerB ) reported the commonwealth cast the killing as cold-blooded murder while the defense argued it followed months of abuse.

The key state witness, Tim Rudolph, testified Monday, telling jurors he, Kern and Griffin drank together at Kern's home. Rudolph said there was no argument, but said Kern followed Griffin into a bathroom and shot him.

Sentencing was scheduled for Wednesday morning. The conviction carries a prison term of 20 years to life.
