A young Paducah man has waived a preliminary hearing, sending manslaughter charges against him to a grand jury.
The Paducah Sun reported 21-year-old Nicholas Barbee was wearing a white tie with the name Braydion painted on it in court Tuesday. Barbee was caring for 3-year-old Braydion Matlock on Feb. 9 when the toddler was fatally shot. Braydion was the son of Barbee's girlfriend, Maria Lopez.
Barbee told police he accidentally shot the toddler. Police said the weapon was a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.
Police charged Barbee with second-degree manslaughter.
