"It's really hot and it's really good to be in the water and to cool off," says 11-year-old Jonah Vance.

As the mercury rises, people are cooling down at water parks during the first weekend of summer.

Splash Lagoon at Beech Bend Park says the summer season is their busiest time of year.

"You can definitely tell there is more people out here than usual, the temperatures are really, really high this time of season so I would say most of our customers come out here for the pool," says Danielle Davenport, a worker at Beech Bend Park and Splash Lagoon.

They say five thousand people came out on Saturday and Sunday to the waterpark.

One family drove up from Tennessee to take a dip in the water under the hot sun.

"To deal with the heat., it's better than sitting in our backyard and watching a barbecue, come out here and have a good time," says David Dale, who was visiting from Tennessee.

"We have family in from out of town, it's the first time my niece is at a waterpark and we've been playing in the lazy river," says Lori Dale, who was visiting from Tennessee.

And while some splashed in the water, others flocked to ice cream shops like Baskin Robbins in Bowling Green for a different kind of cool down.

"I'm out here today to enjoy the summer with ice cream. Ice cream is very cooling and calming, its very relaxing and we love ice cream," says Dorothy Reynolds, who was in town from Cave City.

The store manager at the Baskin Robbins says business is also up there.

"Business definitely escalates through out the summer, we usually do at least twice as much business compared to the winter," says Luke Gevedon, the store manager at Baskin Robbins.

That Baskin Robbins and Splash Lagoon say they expect more and more people to come out and cool down as the summer continues.

Splash lagoon also says since they reopened in May, they've already seen five thousand more people at the water park compared to last year.
