BARDSTOWN, Ky. (AP) — Slain Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis will be memorialized with a granite plaque that the police department will dedicate next week.

The dedication Tuesday will be on the one-month anniversary of Ellis' death in the line of duty May 25. He was ambushed and fatally shot when he stopped to remove tree limbs from the roadway as he returned home after his shift.

The Courier-Journal reported that the police department said on its Facebook page that Keith Monument Company of Valley Station will provide the black granite plaque.

The dedication is set for 1:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday at the Bardstown Police Department.

The shooting remains under investigation, and no suspects have been identified.
