Police Shoot Somerset Man At Home Where Woman Was Killed

SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) -- A woman has died in southeastern Kentucky and a man in the home has been shot after a standoff with police.

Kentucky State Police say 44-year-old Mary Amanda Hislope of Somerset was pronounced dead at the scene west of Somerset in the Nancy community Thursday morning.

Police say officers saw a woman come to the door, then saw a man pull her back inside and heard a possible gunshot.

Police say the man came out of the house armed and after a short standoff pointed his weapon at officers, resulting in the man being shot in the torso.

Police say 52-year-old Timmy K. Hislope of Nancy was flown to University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, but a spokeswoman said there was no information about anyone by that name.
