A Louisville woman has been charged with murder after police say she hit and killed a tow truck driver who was assisting another vehicle.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A Louisville woman has been charged with murder after police say she hit and killed a tow truck driver who was assisting another vehicle.

WAVE-TV in Louisville reported that 53-year-old Paula Oppel also faces charges of DUI and leaving the scene of the scene of an accident.

Officers say that around 11:40 p.m. Thursday police were called to the accident on Beulah Church Road near the Gene Snyder Freeway. Police say the tow truck driver was out of his vehicle in the emergency lane assisting another vehicle.

Witnesses told police Oppel hit the car the truck driver was working on and then hit the victim. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Oppel was arrested around 3 a.m. Friday. Jail records did not list an attorney for Oppel.
