A Bowling Green Police Captain is being recognized for her work with the community's mentally ill.
Captain Melanie Watts is receiving the Crisis Intervention Team Officer of the Year Award after Lifeskills President, Alice Simpson, nominated her.
Watts has helped bring BGPD together with Lifeskills, a non-profit who helps people with mental illness or addiction.
Watts says it's important for both organizations to work together.
"I think this award is great for the whole department not just me, but the whole department because it reflects a way we are now treating the mentally ill and handling them on calls in a more efficient and calm matter," says Watts.
Watt's will represent this region for the statewide award in Lexington in June.
