SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) — Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood says a double killing appears to be a murder-suicide involving a couple having marital problems.
According to WYMT-TV in Hazard, 33-year-old Paula Barnes managed to call 911 before she collapsed and died of a gunshot wound to the chest Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies found her body and that of her 34-year-old husband, Vernon Barnes, in the couple's home.
A statement from the sheriff's office said it appears Vernon Barnes shot his wife and then shot himself with a .22-caliber rifle.
The bodies have been sent to Frankfort for autopsy.
