Work could be completed next week on the renovation of a chapel in the state Capitol.
Kentucky Finance Cabinet spokeswoman Pamela Trautner said Wednesday final touches are under way and could be wrapped by Dec. 7.
The chapel has been closed for the past year while crews worked to restore pews, lay floor tiles and construct a wall to separate the chapel from shelves of noisy communications equipment that had been hidden only by a curtain.
The Kiwanis Club of Frankfort originally opened the chapel in the 1960s in what had been a storage room on the second floor of the Capitol, across the hall from the office of the Kentucky chief justice.
Legislative chaplain Lee Watts said the chapel is routinely used by lawmakers.
