Road Crews Save Money After Mild Winter

A mild winter has brought savings to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

In the South Central Kentucky Region officials say they had 4 events where roads needed salt. $445,000 was spent on snow and ice removal this year. Two years ago $22 million was spent during an exceptionally cold winter.

This season's savings could be used on other road projects.

"It's not like we have millions of dollars tucked away for snow and ice removal. Basically that comes out of our maintenance fund. So the more money that comes out of the maintenance fund for snow and ice the less money there is for like resurfacing and things like that," says Keirsten Jaggers from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3.

Although spring kicks in Wednesday, Jaggers says they are always ready for any lingering snow showers.
