A search warrant is served and a local Bowling Green doctor becomes part of a federal investigation.
Investigators from local, state and federal agencies were seen carrying computers and boxes full of documents out of the office of Dr. Fred Gott. By the end of the day it was enough to fill a small trailer.
"We are in the process of executing a search warrant, conducting interviews and since this is a federal investigation most inquiries will have to be directed to the U.S. Attorney's office in Louisville," said Tommy Loving, Director of the Bowling Green - Warren County Drug Task Force.
The U.S. Attorney's office refused to comment on the investigation saying the case was now a sealed indictment.
Local authorities tell WBKO they have been in discussions on where to take this case.
"Our task force initiates several investigations a year that go through the federal system. Many times we will evaluate the case between the Commonwealth Attorney and U.S. Attorney before we reach a decision where is the most appropriate jurisdiction," says Loving.
Dr. Fred Gott is listed as a cardiologist outside his office on Professional Park Court in Bowling Green. Authorities say he also practiced pain management.
Late Monday The Medical Center released a statement concerning Dr. Gott:
"Dr. Gott holds medical privileges at The Medical Center but does not perform cardiac catheterization at that facility," said Doris Thomas, Vice President of Marketing & Development for Commonwealth Health Corporation, the parent company of The Medical Center.
Greenview Hospital says Dr. Gott is on courtesy staff but never admitted a patient in 2012.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and Dr. Gott faces no charges at this time.
As for his office, investigators say it's not closed and it's up to Dr. Gott if he wishes to continue.
