UPDATED: KSP Releases Name of Victim in I-65 Semi-Truck Collision

UPDATED 4:15 PM 3/16/14 -- The name of the operator of the 2001 Kenworth that died as a result of the collision that occurred on Saturday, March 15, 2014 on I65 at the 39.4 mile point has been identified as Terry Black (44) of Winchester, KY.

Mr. Black was pronounced dead on the scene by the Warren County Coroner's Office. The investigation is still ongoing.

UPDATED 9:36 PM 3/15/14 -- "Normally, the cars are just whizzing past and you're never just standing still, you never actually stand on it. And it's really weird to be near an accident, like it could have been you, because it looks really bad," said Meredith Givan, who was going to Florida from Indiana for spring break.

"It's bad. It's a bad one," said Jeffery Miller, who had been out riding his motorcycle in Cave City.

So bad that one of the truck drivers is now dead.

Police said a moving truck slammed into the back of another semi-truck on I-65 southbound at mile marker 40 near the Smiths Grove exit about 1:30 Saturday afternoon.

The moving truck caught on fire -- killing the driver.

"It was right over a hill and we just saw billows of smoke," Givan said.

"I've not ever seen the interstate like this and I've never been this close," said Alyssa Toth, who was traveling from Indiana to Mississippi for spring break.

A busy weekend on the interstate as many are traveling for spring break, but instead of moving closer to their destination, they were at a stand still for hours this afternoon.

"We'll be here another five or six hours, so making friends and I'm thinking about laying out," Toth said.

"Pretty crazy and we have a little 13 month old. Stuck with him," said Mercedes Brewster of Glasgow.

It wasn't how they expected to start a road trip, but when they realized how bad the accident was, they were thankful all they faced was a few hours of waiting.

"It's very sad, though, that a man passed away from the accident," Toth said.

The name of the driver of the 2001 North American Van Lines Kenworth has not been released yet until family has been notified of the death.

The driver of the 2006 JAJ Transportation Freightliner, 34-year-old Jose Rodriguez of Florida, is at the Medical Center for observation.

UPDATED 5:30 PM 3/15/14 -- Officials have confirmed the driver of the moving truck has died.

Police say the moving truck hit the back of the other box truck and then caught on fire.
