WASHINGTON, (WBKO) -- Kentucky's junior senator, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky is once again pushing for criminal justice reform, now with the help of a northeastern democrat, Sen. Cory Booker, D-New York.
The bill, known as the REDEEM Act is designed to help non-violent offenders clear their record.
Parts of the bill allow adults to seal non-violent criminal records sealing and expunging of juvenile records.
It will also make sure background checks are accurate something one local attorney is glad to see.
"A very good piece of legislation that's dealing with these background companies. I know in my experience I have to deal with quite a few of them. More often than not, the way they classify offenses is often times incorrect," said Bowling Green attorney Dennie Hardin.
The REDEEM Act sponsors also say this is about helping the American tax payer spend less on corrections costs.
