FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky State Police have charged a Shelbyville man with murder in tractor-trailer crash nearly a year ago.
The KSP's Frankfort post issued a statement that Lonnie Monroe was charged Monday with murder and DUI. Investigators said Monroe was under the influence of drugs when he crashed a tractor-trailer truck he was driving on Oct. 9, 2011. The crash killed his passenger, James Lee Jacobs, also of Shelbyville.
The incident occurred as Monroe tried to pass a stopped letter carrier's vehicle on Ky. 148 in Shelby County. Troopers said Monroe lost control of the truck and it ran off the highway and overturned. Jacobs was killed in the crash and Monroe was taken to a hospital with injuries.
Monroe was jailed at the Shelby County Detention Center where there was no record of an attorney for him.
