BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- An investigation is currently underway for animal neglect in Warren County.

13 dogs were taken away from a home on Upper Iron Bridge Road today after the Warren County Sheriff's Office received complaints from area residents.

"Deputies located animals that didn't have proper food, water, and shelter at that location," Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer, Stephen Harmon, said.

The dogs were then taken to the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society for a medical examination.

"They are in very bad shape, and they're very malnourished. They are also full of parasites. We are going to continue to monitor their care. We've sent them into a foster care situation to try to put on some weight and get rid of the parasites, so they're not located here at the humane society," Director, Lorri Hare, said.

There are regulations in place for proper care taking.

"Animal Control deputies say that serviceable food means that it can't just be food that's dumped out in the rain puddles. It has to be something that the animals are able to eat. There is either no water there, or in the past, it has been dirty water. We've seen both there, and also inadequate shelter for the animals that is provided by the law," Harmon said.

Harmon also says the abuse of animals is not to be taken lightly.

"The Sheriff's office takes animal cruelty and neglect seriously, and anybody who witnesses behavior like this should contact the Sheriff's office," Harmon said.

One call may have saved the lives of more than a dozen animals.

"You know, especially this nursing mom, those puppies were draining the life out of her and I don't believe it would have been long before it could have been really bad," Hare said.

The investigation is still on-going, and we will continue to follow this developing story. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
