The Fraternal Order of Police also helped children in Bowling Green get ready for school with today's Shop With a Cop program.

The Bowling Green FOP began taking families shopping during the holiday season years ago, but when they saw a need for children to have necessary items to start the school year, they expanded the program. They say it's also a way to teach children about police.

"We're the police, and normally when we deal with you, it's not the best environment we're coming in to deal with you. These kids see the police and they get a little scared of you, and we don't want them to be scared of us, so we do programs like this, where we can come and interact with the children, and let them know we're good guys. We're good people and we're going to be here for you whether we're at work or we're not," said FOP Lodge 13 President Shawn Helbig.

Each child gets $150 to spend at Kmart. Helbig says the FOP is able to provide this opportunity because of community support.
