Shoppers Scramble to Find Last Minute Gifts

"You can really see the difference on Scottsville Road.  On Monday's and Tuesdays it's as busy as it is Fridays and Saturdays," said O'Charleys General Manager Jacob Dye.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) --Only twelve days remain until Christmas, and the rush of last minute shopping is underway in Bowling Green. Local retailers say those late shoppers can give local businesses a last minute boost.

The traffic on Scottsville Rd. this afternoon was a sign of things to come for local retailers in Bowling Green.

"I think they're ready to get it done. They realize Christmas is coming," said Pappagallo Owner Nicki Smith.

You would expect stores to see the benefits of the shopping rush, but restaurants are in on it too.

"You can really see the difference on Scottsville Road. On Monday's and Tuesdays it's as busy as it is Fridays and Saturdays," said O'Charleys General Manager Jacob Dye.

All that shopping can make a person hungry. Dye says O'Charley's is in the perfect location on Scottsville Rd. to draw in hungry shoppers from the mall and other nearby stores.

"They're sacrificing their time to cook, so they stop in and we take good care of them," said Dye.

One local boutique says they see the most holiday gift shopping in these last weeks leading up to Christmas, particularly for the guys.

"Usually men are the last week of Christmas. That's the biggest sales with men, and alot of gift certificates. That's always our biggest week for gift certificates," said Smith.

Smith says they actually have a 12 days of Christmas sale that coincides with those last few shopping days, a who better to get the word out to customers than the woman famously known on social media as "Mama Gallo."

"Today we have 40 percent of dresses, and it's available for anybody who walks in this door. All you gotta do is get here. Come by sleigh. Come by reindeer, but just get yourself here," said Mama Gallo.

Smith says they try to create a fun holiday shopping experience despite the traffic that accompanies the last minute shopping rush. Smith says the entire month of December has been great for business, but she expects the last Saturday before Christmas to be the biggest for holiday shopping. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
