"I did not kidnap her. I took her on the same street from the grandparents house to the grandmother's house five miles down the street, called the other grandma and let her know where we were at," said Billy Simpson as he was arrested Monday night for allegedly kidnapping his niece.

Carolyn Simpson doesn't want her brother, Billy, in jail after he was accused of kidnapping her four-year-old daughter.

"He would never hurt Faith, she loves him to death," says Carolyn Simpson.

The alleged incident happened just days ago at a family friend's house along Glen Lily Road in Bowling Green.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office says the siblings were fighting when Billy grabbed his niece and fled in his sister's vehicle.

The owner of the home says he didn't realize what happened at first.

"I said, I thought you was gone and she said 'He's got my baby, and gone.' And I said 'what?' and sure enough, he took the baby and left," says Ernest Pierce, a family friend.

Deputies say Billy then dropped his niece off at a friend's house before taking off on foot.

He was later arrested and charged with felony kidnapping, theft of an automobile, and assault.

But Carolyn says she hopes all those charges are dropped against her brother.

"He just made an honest mistake and I don't want him to go to jail or nothing like that because he might of not just been thinking of his actions when he did it," says Carolyn Simpson.

However, the Warren County Sheriff's Office says because Billy has already been charged, it will not be up to the Commonwealth Attorney and the courts on whether to proceed with an indictment.

"That would more than likely have a bearing on the decision that they make, but with the seriousness of the charges, she will not be allowed to just say 'I don't want to pursue this anymore,' it will be decided by the courts and the Commonwealth Attorney," says Chief Deputy Tommy Smith.

Billy Simpson remains behind bars at the Warren County Regional Jail as of Tuesday evening.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office says it will also be up to the Commonwealth Attorney to decide if Billy Simpson will face any additional charges.
