MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (AP) -- The family of a soldier killed in Afghanistan has organized a donation drive to help other troops.
WKYT-TV reports the drive in Mount Sterling on Saturday came less than a week after 19-year-old Pfc. Dustin Gross died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
The soldier's aunt, Jill Tipton, organized the drive and says that volunteers packed 350 boxes to send to 350 soldiers. She says after they get more boxes from the post office, they'll be able to pack up another 350 boxes for soldiers.
In addition, the event raised nearly $2,000. Tipton says those funds will be used to build a veteran's park in Montgomery County.
