A grand jury in south-central Kentucky has charged a father with assault in a wreck that left his young daughter hospitalized.
The Commonwealth-Journal reported that the Pulaski County grand jury handed up the indictment on Tuesday of 56-year-old James "Jimmy" Jasper on a charge of first-degree assault by operating his vehicle in a manner that led to 12-year-old Jaden Jasper's injuries.
The father and daughter were hurt March 5 when the SUV Jimmy Jasper was driving hit a fence line. Police say the wooden planks from the fence penetrated the vehicle's interior, striking both Jaden and Jimmy Jasper and causing serious injuries.
Jimmy Jasper suffered multiple broken bones, a collapsed aorta, and a skull fracture. Jaden suffered a depressed skull fracture, a broken eye socket, and a broken cheekbone.
