Somerset Serving Natural Gas Vehicles

SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) -- Officials in Somerset are preparing to fuel up vehicles powered by compressed natural gas.

The Commonwealth Journal (http://bit.ly/KBfq8e) reports the city activated one of the state's first dispensers to fuel vehicles powered by compressed natural gas. The dispenser is being used to fuel a Honda Civic, which was recently acquired by the city. Mayor Eddie Girdler says two other vehicles that run off natural gas have been ordered and "every vehicle we buy from now on will use natural gas."

The newspaper reports the city also plans to install a pump that will service both city and public vehicles.

Officials say they expected to save up to 80 percent of the cost of fuel by switching the city's fleet of about 75 vehicles from gasoline to natural gas.
