BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - South Central Kentucky Community and Technical College says over the years they have tripled the amount of students they serve. Now, President Elect Dr. Phillip Neal hopes to continue that growth.
"First and foremost we want to always maintain our focus on student success and high quality education. Of course the community and technical colleges have always had an affordable tuition rate," says Dr. Neal.
Neal was unanimously voted by the board of directors to take over for retiring President Dr. Nathan Hodges. Serving as Provost since 2008, Neal has seen first hand the hard work put forth by his predecessor.
"He was brought in to take this college to new levels and this region of the state has such a strong economic development base and such a strong work force," says Dr. Neal.
Dr. Hodges has used the strength of our area to expand. In the last year the community college has received a new name, transformed campus and expansion at the Kentucky Transpark. Dr. Hodges says the improvements come from a dedicated staff.
"We have transformed the college from the program side to the physical plant side, but actually growing people and growing the institution," says Dr. Hodges.
After 8 years as president he admits it won't be easy saying goodbye. His family has been proud to call South Central Kentucky home.
"It has been wonderful, a community that values education. We have a wonderful university and we have a wonderful community and technical college here and I'll tell ya it just speaks so well of South Central Kentucky," says Dr. Hodges.
Dr. Hodges final day at the campus will be July 1.
