WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) This weekend people are hoping for homeruns at the Special Olympics Kentucky State Softball Tournament.
About 500 athletes from all over Kentucky have been competing in several games since yesterday at Michael O. Buchanan Park.
Of the 29 squads qualified, two are Bowling Green teams and one is a Russellville team.
The program directors says sports are important for those with special needs.
"It helps them feel included. It helps them feel like anyone else out there trying to play a sport. They get to have fun, compete and play the sports they love," said Erin Young. "These teams advanced to their regional tournaments back in August, so they're really pumped to be out here and excited, and it's great for everybody involved."
This is the sixth year the tournament has been in Bowling Green.
Games tomorrow begin at 8:00 a.m.
