Public Learns about Stand Your Ground Law

Martha Amerson of the Community Legal Education Coalition organized the event to help educate the public about self-defense.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Local officials, attorneys, law enforcement and the public got together Wednesday night to learn more about the Stand your Ground law at State Street Baptist Church in Bowling Green.

Martha Amerson of the Community Legal Education Coalition organized the event to help educate the public about self-defense.

Amerson said Wednesday night's educational forum was prompted by a community response to the Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman case.

"I had so many people coming to me, as well as young black men, asking the question, do we matter? Are we just supposed to accept just anything they bring to us? So, they really had the idea they didn't matter. From right then, i told them yes, you do matter," said Martha Amerson, Community Legal Education Coalition.

The panel ranged from conceal carry instructors to a Lexington attorney.

Topics included stand your ground, the castle doctrine and self-defense.
