The event at the Sloan Convention Center focuses on training so sheriff's meet their 40 hours per year required by law. Law enforcement also have the opportunity to purchase new equipment during a vendor show.

Organizers say staying up to date is important since Sheriff's play a key role in every community.

"Really the buck stops with us as far as when the public stops and asks questions they expect to come to the Sheriffs office and be able to get the correct answers and obviously we are the only law enforcement officer elected by the people," says Executive Director Jerry Wagner.

The conference is in town the rest of the week. The public invited to come out to see what their local sheriff may be working on.
