CHESTER, Pa. (AP) -- Authorities say a student at Widener University in suburban Philadelphia is being treated at a hospital after he was shot on campus and the university warned students to remain inside while police search for the shooter.
Chester police say that the student was shot while sitting in his car in the parking lot of the university's athletic center around 8:45 p.m. Monday. Police say he called 911 after the gunman shot him once in the side. Police were reviewing surveillance footage.
Widener says that police have secured the campus, but asked students to remain inside until 6 a.m.
A nursing supervisor at Crozer Chester Medical Center says that the victim was in surgery late Monday and the university says his family has been notified.
