A bus trip to Washington D.C. ended shortly after it began in Hart County Wednesday night.

The tour bus wasn't even ten minutes down the road, when riders say the driver was going too fast and turned over off Highway 728 in between Cub Run and Bonnieville in Hart County.

Only one of the 55 people on the bus was seriously injured in the wreck.

For mother and daughter Katrina and Madison Thompson, it's something they'll never forget.

"My first reaction was okay, can I get up? Then when I knew I was okay and got up, then my next reaction was holler for my daughters to make sure they were okay," said Katrina Thompson.

"You could feel it start to tilt. It seemed like we were trying to come back on to the road, but it just couldn't happen and it was like slow motion. We landed on the ground. I was on the side that hit the ground," said Madison Thompson.

Riders say the bus crashed when it took a curve too fast and ended up turning over.

"We were all talking about it. Even the kids were talking about behind me were talking about how he was going too fast, and they thought we were going to crash any time," said Katrina Thompson.

Thompson and her daughters said they had some bad feelings about this trip.

"We were both talking about, how we had a hard time packing for this trip. It's almost like we felt like something wasn't right," said Katrina Thompson.

The tour was through a group called WorldStrides which sent an e-mail to the victims of last night's wreck.

A company VP is now in Hart County to talk about plans to reimburse them, and anything else they needed.

WorldStrides hired a bus company New Image Travel to drive, and that company says they have no comment.

For Madison Thompson this trip is something that's made her reluctant to ride a bus again.

"I don't want to get on another bus for awhile actually. It's an experience, I've never experienced before, so for right now I definitely don't want to get on a bus for awhile."

It's a sentiment in Hart County, that she's not alone in feeling

Thompson and other adults say they were very impressed with how maturely the students handled the situation and were willing to help others.

School officials say this was not a sanctioned trip, but rather Cub Run Elementary was just used as a meeting point.

Kentucky State Police is investigating the bus driver to see if he was under the influence, and said there should be a toxicology report in four to six weeks.
