BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- It was a busy day at Stuff the Bus as volunteers worked to secure many needed items.

"We still need more items. We're here for a few more hours this evening," Kentucky's Savings Group, Elisabeth Fielder-Hix said.

Stuff the Bus 2014 is nearing the end, and although the volunteers are appreciative of every donation, they say they are lacking in some areas. Among those needed items are calculators, book-bags, and glue. But, at the top of the list is food.

"Right now in Warren County, 1 in 4 children are facing food insecurity and they're depending on school meals. So, they will eat breakfast and lunch at school. They'll do dinner at home, but then from Friday afternoon until Monday morning, they may not have another meal," Fielder-Hix said.

Employees throughout our region are working hard to make sure no children are going hungry.

"So, our resource centers are really good about putting together back-pack foods. They are making sure those children are taking home meals and snacks that they can easily prepare at home," Fielder-Hix said.

Community members say it is rewarding to contribute.

"You feel obligated to help and it's such a good cause. You can tell your friends about it. It has been a buzz for the last couple weeks and the more people who give, the better," WKU's Men's Basketball Assistant Coach, David Boyden, said.

One event Founder says this charity would not be possible without your support.

"The community has been extremely helpful this year. This is our 9th year doing this and people are really aware of the fact that around the end of July, we're having a stuff the bus event," Bobby Hunton said.

And there is still time to make a difference.

"Stop by any of these 24-hour stores. You can almost shop all the way through the night here in Bowling Green. Drop off anything. You can even drop it off curb-side. We'll run out and pick it up for you," Fielder-Hix said.

Stuff the Bus officials are also collecting monetary donations, which will used to purchase needed supplies.

The event will officially close Monday morning at 9 A.M.
