BOWLING GREEN, Ky (WBKO) -- The Sun Products Corporation, which manufactures and markets laundry and household care products, says by the end of March it will outsource operations of its distribution centers in Bowling Green; Portland, TN; and Salt Lake City, UT; to Exel, a third-party management company.
Approximately 77 jobs will be affected by the distribution center outsourcing in Bowling Green.
Exel plans to offer positions to the majority of these employees.
Employees can also apply for manufacturing positions at Sun Products.
Over the next 12-18 months, Sun Products says it will be adding approximately 75 new positions to support continued growth at the facility, initiated by the transfer of production from their Baltimore, Maryland plant.
Employees who do not secure positions with Exel or a new position with Sun Products will receive a transition assistance package comprising of severance pay and health benefit continuation, as well as outplacement support in seeking new jobs.
Sun Products say they are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will partner with local and state officials to ensure employees have access to the resources they need.
In the more than five years since Sun Products took over operations in 2008, they say they have added 70 employees to the Bowling Green area, and today their local work force totals 980 people.
They say they remain committed to further investment in the region.
